Amazon and Snapchat rank low for protecting user data from government

hand reaching through laptop screen

This story is about two companies which are Amazon and Snapchat. Snapchat is a IPhone app which allows the audience to send pictures of themselves to others who are on their friends list. Amazon is a website in which you are able to buy goods on. Furthermore these sites have now been seen to put into a situation in which they would not want to be and these would be that they have been ranked as the worst data protection companies according to the US private pressure group. Snapchat have been seen to be distributing their users pictures to a third party without their users being informed of this beforehand. Amazon have also been seen to given their customers information out to other parties such as, their details of address which their customers then receive junk mail through the post. The EFF reports had given snap chat a rating of 1 star out of 5 the reason for this is that they had told their users that the messages they will send will disappear forever however, they have kept these snaps and are using them for their own uses. Amazon had received two stars as they are fighting the battle in which they are not keeping their customers data safe therefore, will be fighting in court of these charges which Amazon are yet to respond to these comments

Premier League chief executive under fire for sexist emails

Man City v West Ham

This story is about how the premier league chief executive has been caught sending sexist emails which has know been labeled as "utterly appalling". These emails were then leaked to the newspapers which then allowed to story to become a national story. The chief executive had referred to a female to one of his friends as "gash". Which the pair then went on to make jokes about the female which were seen to be disrespectful and unacceptable as an professional. the pictures were leaked themselves by a former PA who had given the pictures to the Sunday mirror. He had later gone on to say that "I accept the contents are inappropriate and apologise for any offence caused." This has not been the first offence in which has taking place within the premier league as Richard Keys and Andy Gray were forced to resign from their position as commentators as they had made a sexist jokes towards females, assuming they were of air however this was not the case. This then landed them into controversy as the conversation was leaked online and to radio stations. Furthermore i believe that the premier league is one of the biggest leagues in the world due to excitement it is able to bring on the pitch and the media only having the on the pitch sagas to write about rather then what happens of the pitch behind the pitch doors. Therefore i believe the only way for these matters to be resolved would be to the sack the chief executive as this would then sent the foundation to anyone else who is working within the FA having a clear understanding that they are not able to act within this manner.

One Direction coverage boosts Sun on Sunday sales by 2%

The Sun on Sunday 27 April

This story is a one direction increasing the sales of the Sun on Sunday by 2%. One direction are a boy band who first started on the X Factor who then were signed by Simon Cowell's label and went on to become the biggest ever British boy band not only in the UK but also in the US. This story is about how the sun on Sunday have used One Direction as their personal marketing purpose as they followed the boy band around on their latest tour providing the audience with behind the scene clips which the audience would not be able to get from anywhere else. Furthermore due to the exclusive information they provided to their sales increase by 2%, therefore the sun on Sunday received sales of 1,721,068. My opinion on this story would be that the sun on Sunday's strategy in which that have put in place will allow them to attract a younger audience majority being female. Therefore this strategy will benefit many people the reason for this would be that due to the younger audience wanted to read the once direction articles, this would mean that their parents would buy it for their child. This would then mean that the newspaper would be present in the household encouraging the parent to also read it. The sun would then hope that the parent of the child would be interested in the newspaper therefore in the future being encouraged to buy the newspaper.

Is BSkyB no longer the chosen one?

David Moyes

BSkyB look to now to of given up on the football rights which would include the premier league and the champions league. The reason for this is that the premier league has been the league in which has generated them their most success, as it has generated them the most funds. However BT sport have outbid Sky Sports in order to hold the rights of showing most of the premier league games, Also BT have landed the rights to show the group stage and the knockout stages of the champions league leaving sky with no access to provide any champions league games. This would then be seen as BskyB final days as without the premier league and champions league coverage it would look like they would lose alot of funding and also many subscribers as they would look to a BT subscription as it would be more beneficial for them. BSkyB released a statement which stated that they were not prepared to pay the amount in which the premier league were looking for to show the coverage of the league throughout the year. My view on this story would be that i can not understand the reason behind in which BskyB have decided not to fight and claim the rights to the premier and champions league and it is they largest source of income. I believe without this deal this may see BskyB to be living in their final days as most people would see this to be a suicidal move however, only time will tell.

Spotify says it's 'a matter of time' before it overtakes Apple's iTunes in Europe

Spotify is competing with Apple's iTunes for digital music dominance.

Spotify is an online music streaming website which allows you download and listen to music for free. It also allows you to download music to your devices free of charge. Spotify would be seen to be a free version of iTunes. iTunes is a apple music library in which apple users would buy music which would then sync to their music file on their phone.  Spotify has now gained the spotlight as they have now created a decline within the download sales over a short period time. Spofity have now received over 1 million users over the previous four months. Spotify have generated a income of £92.6 million over from their UK users itself, this was due to the 7 billion streaming of music which were taken place that year. This success that Spotify had received was in 2012. which they are now looking to become more popular then they were within 2012. my opinion on this story is that i believe in order for paid music stores such as iTunes could need to adapt their strategies in order to gain views such as Spotify receive. One way in which they may have to do this would be to provide their music for free, as they would then have to look for other ways in which they would make money from the system.

Netflix announces $1bn revenues and higher prices for new subscribers

The Netflix headquarters in Los Gatos, California.

Netflix are an online streaming website which allow you to view movies and also TV shows. This story is about how Netlix have created a large increase in the subscriptions they have received therefore increasing their revenue by $1billion. However this increase is also due to the increase the company's increase they have set for new subscribers. Netflixs now hold over 48 million members worldwide. The prices for Netflix subscriptions have now increased from £6.99 to £7.99. However for the subscribers which have been present to Netflix from before the price increase will be giving the option of being able to keep £6.99 for two years.  Netflix have also announced that they have received a £53 million increase in turnover. Additionally my opinion on this story is I believe the reason in which Netflix are able to generate the amount of sales in which they do is due to them not having much competition. Netflix only receive competition from love film however from the view of the audience it would be seen that Netlix is the more used online streaming site. However I am not surprised with the success in which Netflix have received the reason for this would be that they are able to provide content in which others are unable to therefore making them unique.
