  • Iran June 2009, In he aftermath of a presidential election opposition supporters poured out onto the street to vent their anger of what they saw as a rigid contest. 
  • The Iranian state hit back with with a riot police and a ban on any media reporting inside of the country.
  • Protesters then turned to twitter to tell the world what was happening.
  • In extraordinary circumstances 2 million tweets were sent out of Iran in the first week by half a million people.  
  • 200 thousands tweets about Iran were posted every hour.
