World Cup 2014 radio rights go to TalkSport
Talksport have been given the
rights to produce live commentary of the football World Cup which will be held
in Brazil in 2014. This will benefit TalkSport as their was no major
football tournament in 2013 therefore Talk sport losing alot of money
and listeners.
- Commentary will be shared with BBC Radio 5 Live. However this has been the case for the last two years therefore it being a rivalry for 8 years.
- Stan Collymore
- Sam Matterface
- Richard Keys
- Andy Gray
However there may
also be extra guests added to the commentary list which has already been
chosen.Furthermore Talksport will not only be providing the commentary for the
all games from the world cup but also,TalkSport will broadcast the draw for the
World Cup group stages. which will take place on the 6th of December.
UTV Media are hoping that
securing the rights to provide the commentary for the World Cup 2014 will
ensure they receive more listeners after the World cup has finished, then they
did in the previous major football tournament. As in the previous tournament
TalkSport listeners had dropped 15% year on the 30th of September after the
Euro 2012.
- UTV Media's Radio
stations were down 10% this year to £37.1m.
- On September 30th their
revenue had improved as they were only down by 3% to £13.m
- UTV Media are expecting an
increase in income by 4% by the end of the year.
