Black Mirror and National Anthem

The message of Black Mirror shows us how the internet has now become a a bigger part to news then the TV broadcasters. This shows that new and digital media has now overtaken traditional media within broadcasting news. This is mainly done through social media sites such as, Facebook and Twitter. The way in which they were able to present this to us was through showing the audience how much social media is an big element. One way in which they presented this was through showing how when the video was uploaded to Youtube it had created 50,000 downloads within 9 minutes. This then shows the amount of people who are active on social media and are able to react to these stories. This video was then Global around the world within the first 9 minutes. This then connotes to the audience the impact social media plays within the audiences lives. We were able to know that the video was to reach a global audience as CNN were showing the footage before any news reporter inside of the UK. Black mirror also told connoted to the audience the main users of social media being the younger audience. This was shown through the older audience wondering what the kidnapper was asking for assuming it was money. However due to social media such as youtube and twitter the son had already been exposed to what the kidnapper was looking for in return of the princess. This also connotes to use that new and digital media had overhauled traditional media in proving the news. This is due to the speed in which new and digital media can provide the news to the audience for example, through Facebook and Twitter.
