BBC targets social media users with Instagram video news

BBC news mobile consumption overtakes desktop

The audience have now decided that it is time for them to start to viewing videos and shows either from their tablet or mobile devise. For the first time ever during the month of December tablets and mobiles overtook platforms such as desktops. BBC have become aware of this change have attempted to reach out to their audience through Instagram videos. The world’s first teletext service broadcast had ran out in 2012. The teletext broadcast was described to be the updated version of text based new service for a digital device. Steve Hermann who is the head of BBC’s news broadcast online said that the trail was a response in the changes that were made to the media platforms. He believes that In order for the BBC to reach out to their audience they would need to target online and social media news. BBC also trailed a selfie broadcast. Where they filmed themselves from a mobile device provided the news towards the audience. BBC do not have other plan in taking another trail out on the social media platform however, they have stated that they will be keeping their eye out and monitoring any changes that may develop in order for them to be the first to react to the changes. I believe that this change will be more successful if they were to target the younger audience which it seems to be through using selfies. I also believe that this will be a very big success in the future in order to attract the younger generation to watch the news.
