BBC rejected early version of Benefits Street two years ago
Channel 4 documentary benefit
street has brought its way back into the media for the second time within
weeks. This time the documentary has now been linked with the BBC. It is to be
seen that the BBC were to of wanted to show the show before channel 4 however,
as the rumours suggest they were in early discussions but then decoded to pull
out of streaming the documentary at the last minute. The story suggest that BBC
had decided what they show would contain and who they would be participating
within the show long before it had even appeared under channel 4’s radar. It is
to be suggested that a company behind the love productions had approached the
BBC around two years ago to discuss this matter of airing the show. A spokeswoman
for this particular corporation had said that, "It's true that the BBC was involved in some early development on
the programme but we decided not to take the project further," she then went on to say how could not
understand what had brought the BBC to not go through with the deal and
declined the project. However in the last few years the BBC have broadcasted
shows which focus on this matter such as, We All Pay Your Benefits and Nick and
Margaret. Therefore she then believes that at the time they had approached the
BBC about this matter she believes the BBC were two minded on whether they
would want to show a show such like that. Whereas she believes that other
formats felt stronger about the matter than the BBC.
