BT to hire 1,600 staff amid internet connections criticism
This story is about BT who are a internet provider which are one of the leading network providers. This story then goes on to talk about how the internet provider now come into some trouble as they have not been providing their customers with the services that they had stated to which has now leaded to them being portrayed in the news as the company in which they would not to be seen as it would be damaging their brand image. After BT have come been portrayed as a business in which they would not want to be in the news they have now hired 1,600 engineers in order to solve the problem in which they are facing right now which their internet connections. The problem in which BT customers are facing is that the companies connection to the internet is faulty and is slow which has left customers frustrated with BT. The telecom comapny had been using Sky and Talk Talk servers in order to keep their services going which have then become a topic for watchdog and has now been presented to their customers. BT have got their engineers in and have said that they will have everything working within the next two days and also with BT servers. "One customer being out of service for too long is one too many," said Joe Garner, chief executive of Openreach. "Millions of customers depend on broadband and they rely on us to keep them connected, whatever the weather." Garner said.
Amazon and Snapchat rank low for protecting user data from government
This story is about two companies which are Amazon and Snapchat. Snapchat is a IPhone app which allows the audience to send pictures of themselves to others who are on their friends list. Amazon is a website in which you are able to buy goods on. Furthermore these sites have now been seen to put into a situation in which they would not want to be and these would be that they have been ranked as the worst data protection companies according to the US private pressure group. Snapchat have been seen to be distributing their users pictures to a third party without their users being informed of this beforehand. Amazon have also been seen to given their customers information out to other parties such as, their details of address which their customers then receive junk mail through the post. The EFF reports had given snap chat a rating of 1 star out of 5 the reason for this is that they had told their users that the messages they will send will disappear forever however, they have kept these snaps and are using them for their own uses. Amazon had received two stars as they are fighting the battle in which they are not keeping their customers data safe therefore, will be fighting in court of these charges which Amazon are yet to respond to these comments
Premier League chief executive under fire for sexist emails
This story is about how the premier league chief executive has been caught sending sexist emails which has know been labeled as "utterly appalling". These emails were then leaked to the newspapers which then allowed to story to become a national story. The chief executive had referred to a female to one of his friends as "gash". Which the pair then went on to make jokes about the female which were seen to be disrespectful and unacceptable as an professional. the pictures were leaked themselves by a former PA who had given the pictures to the Sunday mirror. He had later gone on to say that "I accept the contents are inappropriate and apologise for any offence caused." This has not been the first offence in which has taking place within the premier league as Richard Keys and Andy Gray were forced to resign from their position as commentators as they had made a sexist jokes towards females, assuming they were of air however this was not the case. This then landed them into controversy as the conversation was leaked online and to radio stations. Furthermore i believe that the premier league is one of the biggest leagues in the world due to excitement it is able to bring on the pitch and the media only having the on the pitch sagas to write about rather then what happens of the pitch behind the pitch doors. Therefore i believe the only way for these matters to be resolved would be to the sack the chiefexecutive as this would then sent the foundation to anyone else who is working within the FA having a clear understanding that they are not able to act within this manner.
One Direction coverage boosts Sun on Sunday sales by 2%
This story is a one direction increasing the sales of the Sun on Sunday by 2%. One direction are a boy band who first started on the X Factor who then were signed by Simon Cowell's label and went on to become the biggest ever British boy band not only in the UK but also in the US. This story is about how the sun on Sunday have used One Direction as their personal marketing purpose as they followed the boy band around on their latest tour providing the audience with behind the scene clips which the audience would not be able to get from anywhere else. Furthermore due to the exclusive information they provided to their sales increase by 2%, therefore the sun on Sunday received sales of 1,721,068. My opinion on this story would be that the sun on Sunday's strategy in which that have put in place will allow them to attract a younger audience majority being female. Therefore this strategy will benefit many people the reason for this would be that due to the younger audience wanted to read the once direction articles, this would mean that their parents would buy it for their child. This would then mean that the newspaper would be present in the household encouraging the parent to also read it. The sun would then hope that the parent of the child would be interested in the newspaper therefore in the future being encouraged to buy the newspaper.
BSkyB look to now to of given up on the football rights which would include the premier league and the champions league. The reason for this is that the premier league has been the league in which has generated them their most success, as it has generated them the most funds. However BT sport have outbid Sky Sports in order to hold the rights of showing most of the premier league games, Also BT have landed the rights to show the group stage and the knockout stages of the champions league leaving sky with no access to provide any champions league games. This would then be seen as BskyB final days as without the premier league and champions league coverage it would look like they would lose alot of funding and also many subscribers as they would look to a BT subscription as it would be more beneficial for them. BSkyB released a statement which stated that they were not prepared to pay the amount in which the premier league were looking for to show the coverage of the league throughout the year. My view on this story would be that i can not understand the reason behind in which BskyB have decided not to fight and claim the rights to the premier and champions league and it is they largest source of income. I believe without this deal this may see BskyB to be living in their final days as most people would see this to be a suicidal move however, only time will tell.
Spotify says it's 'a matter of time' before it overtakes Apple's iTunes in Europe
Spotify is an online music streaming website which allows you download and listen to music for free. It also allows you to download music to your devices free of charge. Spotify would be seen to be a free version of iTunes. iTunes is a apple music library in which apple users would buy music which would then sync to their music file on their phone. Spotify has now gained the spotlight as they have now created a decline within the download sales over a short period time. Spofity have now received over 1 million users over the previous four months. Spotify have generated a income of £92.6 million over from their UK users itself, this was due to the 7 billion streaming of music which were taken place that year. This success that Spotify had received was in 2012. which they are now looking to become more popular then they were within 2012. my opinion on this story is that i believe in order for paid music stores such as iTunes could need to adapt their strategies in order to gain views such as Spotify receive. One way in which they may have to do this would be to provide their music for free, as they would then have to look for other ways in which they would make money from the system.
Netflix announces $1bn revenues and higher prices for new subscribers
Netflix are an online streaming website which allow you to view movies and also TV shows. This story is about how Netlix have created a large increase in the subscriptions they have received therefore increasing their revenue by $1billion. However this increase is also due to the increase the company's increase they have set for new subscribers. Netflixs now hold over 48 million members worldwide. The prices for Netflix subscriptions have now increased from £6.99 to £7.99. However for the subscribers which have been present to Netflix from before the price increase will be giving the option of being able to keep £6.99 for two years. Netflix have also announced that they have received a £53 million increase in turnover. Additionally my opinion on this story is I believe the reason in which Netflix are able to generate the amount of sales in which they do is due to them not having much competition. Netflix only receive competition from love film however from the view of the audience it would be seen that Netlix is the more used online streaming site. However I am not surprised with the success in which Netflix have received the reason for this would be that they are able to provide content in which others are unable to therefore making them unique.
Amazon strikes deal with HBO to stream The Sopranos and The Wire
This story is about amazon who have struck a major deal with HBO in order to stream their shows through amazon instant. Amazon had previous brought online streaming site love film. Love film is a sight which is most famous for their movies in which they allow their audience to watch online or receive through the post. love films main online streaming rivals were netflixs who looked to be gaining more customers as their were able to reach a larger target market. This was first time in which Amazon were able to strike a deal with an online video provider allowing Amazon instant to be able to play their shows online through their site. At this present moment Amazon instant only hold the rights to show The Sopranos and The Wire, However they are looking to expand the subscriptions which would allow them access to stream more of HBO shows. At this present moment the rights of HBO mainly belong with BskyB with Amazon coming out and stating that nothing is final yet and they have not decided to move in to bid for more rights of the shows. In my opinion this would be a beneficial move for Amazon. The reason for this due to their competition with Netflix they need to be able to provide something in which would attract their target market. The way in which they would be able to do this would be to gain the rights of shows in which the public would be interested in and would want them to subscribe to them. I also believe that online streaming is becoming more and more popular therefore this could be beneficial to the audience as they would then not have to pay a high subscription bill for TV, also it would be more flexible for the audience as they would be able to access the shows in more way then one.
This story is about how the media institutions have a majority of white race working for then. Therefore this had then to a figure of television inside of Lenny Henry in which he is now attempting to get the attention of these intuitions in order to create an awareness of this matter which he would hoping it would lead to action being taken place on the matter. The way in which he has had taken this role on has been through attempting to create a petition. The reason in which why he had been blown into the attention was due to Lenny Henry's beliefs that the media institutions was dominated by the whites therefore him trying to open the path for more Blacks and Asians to be apart of television. Some could see this campaign to be serious and be taking to extreme levels in order for the law to be changed allowing more Asians and Black to be apart of TV. This reason for this would be that they have already stated that if the petitions is not seen to be taken into consideration the first step they will take will be to boycott the TV licence. How Lenny Henry had brought this issue to the public first was by creating an email address in which he sent out in order to receive feedback. due to the increase of new and digital media in order for Lenny Henry to be enable himself to get though to his target audience the easiest way for this would be through the internet due to the impact it can have of how fast the news will be able to travel. My view of this story would be that i believe that it would be a good idea allowing more Asians and Blacks into television the reason for this it would then decrease the amount of stereotyping in which takes place through the media. I also believe in order for Lenny Henry's petition to gain attention through the media using new and digital media would allow this as, it would travel fast therefore making it a trend.
Newspaper ill-advised to let police post their own online story
Torquay Herald Express newspaper have produced a conducted something which is unusual and does not tend to happen very often or ever. The local newspaper have allowed their local police force to write their own piece in their newspaper. The section is labelled who is this man? The reason they have allowed this is due to a fan who has stolen a canvas bad from a library which was left on the floor and unattended to while the owners had not been around. The newspaper and the local police see this as a “historical event.” Mt view on this story is that I believe that if the bag was stolen from the library it would have made more sense to me if someone who was present in the library at the time to right the story as, they would have a full insight on the story. I believe that this was done in an act of creating history by having the first amateur which was present within the police to write a story in the newspaper rather, than them doing this in order to help with the police investigation.
Facebook buys UK maker of solar-powered drones to expand internet
This story is telling us about how Facebook are making solar powered drones in aircraft which will fly over countries in which can not afford the internet and will allow them access to the internet. This will then but them in straight competition with Google, who are planning to create internet access for countries through balloons. Facebook have claimed that they are looking to reach an audience of £1.2 billion. This would then take Facebook to their audience of 4 billion. This operation will cost around £12 million to conduct which has already been put into work."Our team is actively working on building our first aircraft now," Zuckerberg said in a paper published yesterday. My opinion on this story would be due to the increase in new and digital media this would be a idea which would work due to the fact that the internet is now becoming thew most pwoerful tool to humans as it allows them to reach and conduct near enough everything. However if Facebook are providing it country who are unable to afford internet the only setback i would feel there would be, is that how would they claim access to the internet through the technology. As Facebook may reach an audience of 1.2 billion, however would the audience be able to get access to the technology in order to use the internet.
This story is about how YouTube has now been banned within Turkey weeks after they had already banned Twitter usage within the county. This is not the first time this has happened within in Turkey as they had banned YouTube within Turkey in 2007 which they then released this ban three years after it was put into place. The reason for this ban was that social media users within the Turkey were able to access "Virtual private networks". Therefore this being too much of a risk for the country to be able to risk. One of the issues which was raised which came to a concern of Turkey was, a private conversation which was recording and then posted onto YouTube. The conversation was between Turkish intelligence chief Hakan Fidan, foreign minister Ahmet Davutoglu. The conversation in which they had secretly recorded contained information discussing a possible military action in Syria. My opinion on this story would be that due to the increase of new and digital media it now has a large and importance within he world as their are many users. Social media is then an aspect which can be used for more bad then good. Therefore I then personal believe that the action Turkey have taken on banning social media is the right thing to do. The reason for this would be that if they were to recive vital information this could then lead to something the country may not want such as, offending other countries.
This years campaign for cancer research was a "no make up selfie." This campaign was put in place where women would take a selfie of themselves with no make up and post it on Facebook with the text they had sent showing that they had donated money to cancer research. Once they would nominate someone else this would then keep the cycle going as they would nominate as many people as possible. This campaign then had created a large awareness therefore providing donations of £2 million. This campaign was made successful do to social media as it enabled the audience to be able to quickly receive the information as it would appear on their news feed. I believe that this campaign was a success due to the fact it was able to relate to the audience and make it something that would create awareness to the audience therefore enabling them to interact. Furthermore I do not believe this would been a success without social media as it would not have reached it mass audience, therefore this reinforces the fact in which social media is now a large part of peoples lives therefore allowing them to create a wide audience which is shown through the amount of money raised. This campaign was also a success due to the celebrities who had taken part. Once they has taken part this then encouraged their following to do aswell due to them looking up to them as a inspiration. I believe in order for campaigns such as cancer research to create large donations they would need to do this through relating to the audience which is shown how it would work through the selfie campaign.
This is a story which again talks about the trust we can have with news being put through to us through social media. social media allows us quick and easy access to news. When someone tweets the news on twitter it is then re tweeted by many people which then soon turns viral. This then means everyone is now aware of the news as it is trending. However it has now been brought upon us that not everything you see on the news is believable. The reason for this is that news which is being present to us through social media has no source of where it is coming from but however looks believable to the audience. One example of this is Manchester United Manager was seen to had been sacked from his position as it had been trending on twitter. However later on the audience had come to realise that this was a fake piece of news as there was no reliable source which could back this up such as Sky Sports. My opinion on this story is that i believe due to everything now becoming technology based that news online is now the way in which the audience will receive their news as it is quick and news travels faster through this therefore reaching the audience faster. However i believe that their will always be fake stories going around which i then believe it is yup to the audience to find the reliable sources before spreading it themselves.
This story is News UK expressing their feelings on what they believe that the Daily Mail and the Guardian are doing wrong. News UK do not understand the reason in which why The Guardian and Daily Mail provide their news for free digitally. They believe this for more then one reason. One of the reasons in which why they believe this is News UK do not understand how they will make their money if they are providing their news for free. The reason for this is that if you're providing your news for free digitally no one will then buy your newspaper as, in this day and age most people are going to check their news online rather then the traditionally way through newspapers. However it is also seen that newspapers are still making their money through the advertisements they receive. Furthermore if they are providing their news for free the audience are more likely to view their news therefore, leading to them seeing the advertisement. News UK also believe The Guardian and Daily Mail are not able to keep up with the new day and age as once newspapers are forever in decline and are not used anymore News UK do not believe that newspapers such as The Guardian and Daily Mail will not be able to stay alive. My opinion is due to many people now viewing newspapers online by providing it for free benefits the audience and the newspaper. The reason for this is that the newspapers will receive more advertisements which will give them more money as, the advertisements will know that they will receive a mass audience due to the newspaper providing their materials for free.
The first example would be Lady Gaga reinforcing the stereotype of how women should be deceived as. The normal women would be looked at as a real life version of a Barbie doll who wear make up and dress up to receive attention. However Lady Gaga while still receiving attention for the opposite reason of dress up as a man on a performance that would be broadcast to the world.
The second example I have used is a traditional way in looking at how a female is shown to be.This is an example of a female being traditionally shown on a make up advert with an agenda to sell make up to women in order for them to improve their appearance. This advert does not challenge Butlers gender theory as we are used to seeing women advertising make up.
This is an advert which reinforces Butlers theory of gender performances as it is an advert you would not be used to associated with men. The advert is trying to sell a mens cream in order for them to look after their skin. This would then challenge Butlers theory as men have now become more conscious about their appearance which you would more associate with females.
This advert is a Nike football boots advert. The advert reinforces Butlers theory of gender performance as, it shows men playing football and how the they will need the perfect football boots in order to play better. This is an advert we would be used to seeing as men are mostly connected to sports therefore seeing many adverts relating to this.
This poster is a poster promoting womens football and their upcoming schedules. This poster is challenges Butlers theory of gender performances. The reasons for this is due to we as the audience are not used to seeing female sports being promoted as, traditionally womens sport is not as popular as mens would be.
This womens beauty magazines reinforces Butlers theory of gender performance. This is a magazine which is targeted at women in order to provide them with tips to improve their appearance. This is shown through the quote on the front cover being"Improve your skin" as it reinforces that women have alot of provide within their appearance. The cover also follows a tradition to have a beautiful women placed on the front page which would make the women want to be like her.
This magazine front cover challenges Butlers theory of challenges Butlers theory of gender performance. This magazine shows Beckham who was a former football star. A traditional view in looking at a male would be for them to be manly. However this magazine challenges Butlers gender theory would be that men have no also turned their attention more onto their appearance which was previous only seen to be important to women.
This is a perfume advert for men which reinforces Butlers theory of gender performance. The reason for this would be that we would assume to see a male on an mens perfume advert. However this could also challenge Butlers theory as, this would show that men are now become more in conscious with their appearance as they now want to have the perfect smell.
This game is a nintedodog game which is seen to be alternative view of Butlers theory of gender performance. The reason for this would be that this game was created for females who would look after their virtual pet. However as the game developed they then targeted it at men. This is shown through the colouring they use as traditionally they would use pink which they have now changed to a mutual colouring.
http://www.nickjr.co.uk/play/#!
This game reinforces Butlers theory of gender performance this is a game which is targeted at females. The reason for this is due to the colouring of the game as it is pink which is seen to be a female colour. Also the character in the game is a female which tells us the game was created for females.
http://www.myfootballgames.co.uk/
This is a football game which reinforces Butler theory of gender performance. Butlers theory suggests that men would be more associated which sports therefore, we are then used to seeing football games which are targeted at men. This game also does not include any female characters or any signs of it being made for females aswell as males.
This game challenges Butlers theory of gender performance the reason for this would be that women are not normally seen to be playing sports or playing sports games. Therefore this then challenges this as this game is made and targeted at females. We know this as the game contains female characters therefore is seen as a females game.
Case Study
The Case study I have chosen relating to new and digital technology is on demand. The reason I have chosen this as my case study is that it now plays a huge role in peoples lives due to the majority of peoples busy schedule they are not able to watch the shows on their original times therefore using on demand more. I also decided to choose this case study as, due to it large audience the merge between iplayers such as ITV and BBC are now available on Sky therefore, giving me a large amount of research to conduct which would then lead to me having a lot of areas to discuss on. This topic is also an area which I can link to other aspect such as advertisement. The way in which I am able to link advertisement to on demand would be through the way in which audience are able to fast forward therefore allowing the audience to skip the adverts.
The three Texts I will be looking at will be at as my primary source's will be,
WWW- References to Text in question two and question Three.
LR - Include more theory and examples. Add a paragraph to question one and three.
Question 1
Text one and two both use dialogue in order to create enigma codes towards the audience through the dialogue which is used. this is done through the sound that is used. The sound of both clips is fast music which then connotes the genre of the film as telling the audience that their will be action taking place in the film. Furthermore the trailers also have low key lighting this then presents the horror side of the film. The editing of the trailers were fast. The reason for this would be that it would connote to the audience the action side of the film as by having fast editing within the trailer this allows them to start putting the audience on the edge of their seats before the film has started. the camera angles and shots which were used allowed the audiences to feel the emotions of the film which varied from happiness to sad to the ending of relief. The camera work also allows the audience to be giving an in site of how the actors are feeling throughout the movie.
Question 3
The uses of unofficial websites in order to increase the marketing side of the film as it may allow the movie to reach its mass audience. One of the positives they would receive from the unofficial websites would be they may be global websites therefore, this would then mean they would able to reach an audience in which the films representatives could not be able to reach for example due to the budget of the marketing team. unofficial websites are however not controlled by the distributors therefore not all the criticism they would receive would be positive. Therefore this would then damage the image of the film as the audience would be reading bad reviews of the film. Unofficial website would allow videos relating to the film to go viral. Also social media would allow the actors within the movie to promote the film directly to their fan base. This fans are more likely to watch exclusive videos and be encouraged to watch the film when told to by a actor/actress who they are following.
Channel 4 to broadcast footage of 9/11 New York attacks filmed from space
The whole of Britain will be provided with footage which
some of them would have been waiting on for a very long time, as the footage
being published is over 2 years late. The 9/11 attack which had taken place
within New York which unfortunately had destroyed the twin towers. The footage
which was filmed outside of space will be the first time shown on channel 4 for
the first time allow the British public to receive an overlook view of what had
taken place. The camera which was able to capture this moment was the international
space station by the astronaut Frank Culbertson. My take on this story is that
as it says that you can see a stretch of smoke after the crash had taken place
therefore I believe, that all you would be able to see would a large amount of
smoke therefore not allowing really providing much to the audience. Also I believe
that after their crash had taken place from outside of space there would not be
much footage which channel 4 would be able to show therefore making the
audience wonder how long they would produce the program for.
BBC3 closure: now director of TV refuses to guarantee the future of BBC4
There is now controversy on
whether BBC4 will be aired coming the following of the next licence renewal for
the company’s decision. The decision has come after the BBC have decided to
make BBC3 the only online broadcaster, this may be due to many reason in order
for the BBC to save money and allow them to focus on one online broadcaster. This
may also have been done as they would believe that there would be no need for
them to have two online broadcasters as they would provide the same
information. The closing of the BBC4 has affected the BBC has they see the
closure as not the easiest due to the amount of time they have had it opened
for. Which is around 11 years. However the BBC have no completely shut the service
down as it will still be available on the BBC I player. When
asking Richard Bacon whether he could respond to the future of the BBC4 channel
he replied with, "The honest answer is no, I can't. We don't know for
certain what will happen with BBC4 in the future”. This would then indicate too
many people that the service will most likely be shut down soon. As people expect
this closure would be due to the decreases of the financial side of the BBC
which Richard Bacon goes on to support this fact.
David Walliams to star as BBC bags Agatha Christie drama deal
David
Walliams will star in adaption on the BBC. The author who will be taking charge
of this will be Agatha Christie the reason for this is due to the 125th
anniversary birth. This scheme was also brought to be put into place as, it
will allow the BBC to bring in some of the most well-known authors to have
taking their work on the small screen. The BBC have already broadcasted some of
the biggest names. These names are many of Christies work. However the author
has heavy been involved with working with ITV over the past years. I believe that
this deal was made by the BBC in order to allow them to bring in a larger
audience in order to benefit themselves. However I do believe by the BBC brining
authors in who are famous amongst the small screen will allow them to bring in
the audience whether it is a success or not as, the audience will still want to
find out how it turns out to be. Furthermore it seems to be looking to become a
success the reason for this is statistics such as Christie most successful work
selling more 100 million copies. This then shows that her fan base is large
which will then tune in to watch her work with the BBC.
Universities being used as proxy border police, say academics
The guardian
have received over 160 letters of complaints from University students who are
expressing their anger to the UK border police invading the trust and privacy
of the students. University are now under more pressure as the UK Border police
are now checking their student’s immigration status in more detail. Universities
such as Oxford, Warwick, Durham and Sheffield are clearly being looked into
further as their academics are being looked further into therefore frustrating and
forcing them to write to the guardian. The academics are accusing the UK force
to of taking advantage of their powers and not having trust between the
students and their university. This has also angered universities as they
believe that the UK border police are also taking it to extreme levels. I
believe that by the UK border police doing this is obviously going to frustrate
not only universities but also students. The reason for this is that the trust
of Universities is being questioned as they are stating that their security in
which students are able to come into the university is not trust worthy.
Fast broadband now considered vital by increasing numbers of homebuyers
Houses who
are able to connect broadband and receive signal which is good, fast and
reliable will be seen to be worth about 20% more than an house who does not
hold broadband and do not have a good broadband connection. It is now seen that
fast good working broadband is an important aspect to homeowners and people
buying the homes. Homeowners were before looking for areas in which have activities
based around them, easy access to transport such as train station providing effective
lines and running trains. Now fast connection has been added to list of expectations
when buying a home. Estate agents have stated that due to the home connection people
buying houses are looking to pull out of deals. I believe that if this is to be
true homeowners are going to find it hard to sell their houses especially
people who live in country sides areas also north houses. However I believe
this will now only add complications to homes being sold such as, people will
be looking to now get perfect phone reception as internet.
BBC and BSkyB reach agreement over retransmission payments
Sky and BBC have been involved in a large debate for a while
over the retransmission fees that BBC will be paying in order to play their
demand service BBC IPlayer on Sky’s demand on TV. However they then finally
came to a decision that Sky have allowed BBC to no longer pay to have their
service within Sky’s TV Platform. This deal then saves Sky 4.5million. From BBC
point of view this would then attract Sky more viewers as BBC IPlayer is the highest
viewed demand service. BBC had proposed that Sky would have to start paying them
in order to use their services on their TV Platform. This had then to the mind
of the BBC has they wanting the annual fee to be decreased by Sky, however they
were not arguing over the price therefore the BBC then played this card. BBC
are not tge only one who saved money through this saga as, ITV, Channel 4 and 5
also saved money through this, ITV of saving around 2 million, as they had made
the agreement over the last month. I believe that Sky would need to keep a hold
of these platforms of on demand channels as people are more likely to use their
services knowing they are able to catch up with their shows whilst they are
being played on the TV.
ITV have created a new TV program which is mainly targeted at
females. The show is called ITVBe which is broadcasting shows such as, the only
way is Essex. The program is mainly created to provide shows based around
reality TV. The channel will be showed on freeview, sky and virgin. The target
audience for this show will be younger females, aged from 16-34 year old. The
genre of shows which will be shown on TV will be drama and comedy. I believe
that this channel is a good idea. The reason for this would be that this
channel will attract a large amount of female audiences. The reason for this
would be that they enjoy shows based around a life they want.
BBC2 controller Janice Hadlow will
step down from the role after more than five years, to take up a new job as
controller within BBC. Janice Hadlow is the controller of BBC4 and BBC2. Which he
will now only be the controller of BBC4 as he is stepping down from the BBC2
role. He decided to leave the company on the channel’s 50th
anniversary. Janice Hadlow has been in charge of this role for six years. The
new Job role contains, develop and originate high-impact, cross-platform
series, seasons and other major television events, he will also advise Danny
Cohen and the channel controllers on broadcast strategy. I believe that Janice
Hadlow had a major role within BBC2 however by then standing down this with
then allow more time to fulfil the role within the BBC4. However by standing down
this has also led to getting a bigger role within BBC2.
The development of new/digital media means the audience is more powerful in terms of consumption's and production. Discuss the arguments for and against the view.

Penultimate Paragraph
Wikipedia is a page where
articles are posted about famous people providing the public with information
about them such as their birthday to their background. 65 million people use
Wikipedia and 14 million people post articles on the site. It is a website
which is made for ordinary people as it is free to use. It is argued that Wikipedia
is inaccurate, as anyone is able to edit pages and change information about an
organisation or individual. This is due to anyone being allowed access to
Wikipedia pages and being able to change the information which is present for a
company or individual. Critics may believe that Wikipedia articles are able to
be posted by anyone therefore they are not reliable however, Wikipedia articles
are verified by other accounts and users of Wikipedia to ensure the information
is correct otherwise the information would then be deleted. Wikipedia is one of
the most powering tool for the ordinary people as they are able to post
information to over 65 million people. Also when someone is in need of
information about an individual the first place they would be taken to would be
Wikipedia. This then shows the the audience have enabled themselves to gain more power as they are able to display this through Wikipedia as they are in control of what information is provided to the world about things such as, countries and celebrities. As Wikipedia is the largest organisation for someone to search for information this then connotes that the audience has now come into control.
Conclusion
In conclusion I believe that the change in new and digital
media has now allowed audience’s to become more empowered due to the change in
new and digital, one of these changing highly involved the increase of the use
of social media, as this also relates to user generated content as this allows
the audience to be able to create something and post it online allowing the
audience to get noticed and get a fan base. The development within new and digital media has now provided the audience with more control. one way in which new and digital media has done this would be through user generated content as this would provide the audience with a view which is now seen to be a valued greater. Furthermore websites such as Wikipedia also allow the audience to be in control as it a website which the audience is in full control off and do not have to follow the rules of a major organisation before posting an article.
BT's push into football and fibre broadband drives up revenues
Due to the football contracts has allowed them to build and increase their subscription by 2%. BT sport has no attracted over half a million extract customers since they started showing football. BT's group pre-tax profits grew 8% to £722 million in the three months to the end of 2013. In order for the BT to claim the rights of the premier and champions league the BT had to take a cut of 8% fall in earnings. I believe that the loss which has come from claiming the rights to premier and champions league football will be worth it as, this will allow them to gain more viewers and subscriptions which will then make their money back.
BT are expecting an increase of £1.85 billion which is a 4% increase over three months.
"We are open to wholesale arrangements with Sky,"
BT shares were 3% higher as they announced 150,000 new broadband customers, and a 60% share of new connections on its network.
Google reports 17% revenue rise for fourth quarter
Google received an increase of revenues
towards the end of 2013 where they were able to increase their revenues by 17%.
This was announced on Thursday. The company's results came a day after it
announced it was Selling Motorola Mobile. Google’s current revenue has no increased to $16.86 billion
this also includes the sale of Motorola smartphone sale. Google's majority of revenues came from their own sites which include it search engine and YouTube. Google-owned sites generated revenues of $10.55bn, 67% of revenues. I believe that the sale of Motorola will not affect Google as much as due to the increase of Samsung and Apple within the market. Therefore i believe Google have sold Motorola before the company would be worthless.
The revenue of Google
this time last year was $14 billion.
They are looking to increase the revenue to $16 billion by this time next year.
The representations of ethnicity that we had saw within the clip was mixed cultures being displayed within the clip. One of the ways in which this was shown through the clip was when the girls were going to a party and their were a mixed representation of cultures being displayed. However this can relate to Fannons theory of putting on a white mask. The reason for this would be that in order for the black women who are being represented in the clip would need to fit in by getting all dressed up and following the tradition which is based in London by getting ready and going out on a Friday night for example a party or clubbing. This then shows the way in which people inside of London live their lives in order to "fit in". Furthermore also the representation of culture within the Olympics opening ceremony show a mixed family culture as you see a mixed of a black child who is on his Nintendo Ds and then you have a white mum who comes to get him to come inside. This then connotes to the audience the different cultures which are based within London. The clip would also promote a anti racism campaign as they would provide a multi-cultured cast within the opening ceremony which would vary from all around the world. This would then be done in order to show the representation of London, London is seen to be city with all kind of races as they not only live here but also, everyone within London mix with other cultures, this is shown through the different cultured girls going out on a night out.
